I’ve experienced it all, and have learned the hard way what can help: safe and efficient processes. That may sound boring, but in the long run, you’ll be revelling in a more manageable and spacious working life. Just imagine having time for an actual lunch break!
I’ve spent many years in the third sector building up a range of knowledge useful for charities and STOs alike. Like all of you, my passion is creating a fairer, kinder, and safer world. Such ideals can’t be based solely on good intentions (sadly!) – the nuts and bolts of any organisation need to be smooth, compliant, and effective. I can oil these for you, while you focus on the work you want to actually be doing! I’m happy to provide ad-hoc and one-off support and advice, as well as addressing longer-term needs.
Safeguarding
This can be a complex and daunting area, and my approach here is a little bit different to some. I tailor work towards your setting, so you have clear processes in place and your people know what to look out for and what to do, all within the context they are operating in daily. I passionately believe that this is the way nothing slips through the net and everyone is kept safe. I can:
- Run relatable and tailored trainings for your staff/volunteers, based on your internal processes.
- Workshop with safeguarding leads/managers around your responsibilities as an organisation, to identify best practice and any gaps or challenges to address.
- Work with you to design a completely bespoke training to use in-house moving forward.
- Implement processes, review what you already have, or be on hand for support and advice.
Volunteer Management
Volunteers can be a wonderful and necessary asset to an organisation, but also time-consuming and an organisational risk without smooth processes in place. After personally recruiting, training, and managing hundreds of volunteers over the years, nothing surprises me! Let’s make it a rewarding and beneficial experience for both sides. With an emphasis on safer recruitment and inclusivity, I can:
- Implement or review volunteer programmes – from role descriptions, interviews and background checks, to induction, policies, and rewards.
- Troubleshoot any challenges and build confidence in setting boundaries.
- Support or train your volunteer management staff or be a sounding board.
Organisational Development
I can help with a range of ‘behind the scenes’ operational or HR tasks, such as:
- Recruitment: effective processes to get the right people in the right roles.
- Management: induction, probation, appraisal systems, HR software configuration.
- Policies: reviewing or implementing for best practice and compliance.
- Wellbeing: advice on employee engagement and retention.
I recognise that every organisation has different needs, and much prefer getting to know what you are about so I can offer bespoke and flexible support. It makes for a much friendlier and personable day, too.
